Don’t know what happened to summer, but it’s gone, finished, done & dusted. Good. August was far too quiet for me, a sprinkling of jobs , weekend breaks and crap weather in between. I’ve always preferred the autumn for photos, lots more colour and lots of events to cover. A good start to this month, bookings are coming in. I’m back on a few shifts for my old paper as well and will have some reception class school photos to get round. At least I haven’t got to organise it this year!
I covered Chippenham Half marathon at the weekend, great event and atmosphere. Amazed that the Kenyan athlete Jonah Chesum (pictured) finished the 13.5 miles in 63min51sec, a new course record for the event. It would take me that time to walk the mile up to the Lion & Fiddle, sup a pint and get back again.
Great that the front runners were back so early, that gave me time to go and cover some Chippenham Sunday League football. I’m a great fan of grassroots football, it’s usually free or cheap to watch and whilst it’s not Premier League quality action there are some great moments and characters out there on the pitches.Go and support your local pub or village team, cheer them on, enjoy the crunching tackles and colourful language and the pre-match warm ups with fags and a can of lager . Chelsea FC it ain’t, but it gets you out in the fresh air and there’s usually a decent pint nearby.
Mustn’t forget the rugby, good luck this season to Trowbridge RFC and all the lads, including mine, playing for the Colts. I will see you down there with the camera some time.
